1. Smart Speakers and Voice Search.
If you haven’t heard of Siri, Alexa or Google, you have probably been living in an internet-free cave on a remote island. These days, they are a household name and an increasing number of people are investing in smart speakers to help them with life in general and by next year, a huge number of people will be using voice search as their chosen method of browsing the internet.
Before you lay down any definitive plan to implement changes for voice search marketing, you need to figure out what your customers might be searching for in your local area and where this information will be pulled from. After this point, you need to come up with a plan for VEO (Voice Engine Optimization) and you need to get on it as soon as humanly possible. We covered all the key points in a previous blog so check it out.
When you think of influencers, you are probably thinking about those social media megastars with millions checking out their content on a daily basis. However, Micro-Influencers work on a smaller scale but their marketing potential is much higher. Why? because their following is very concentrated to a specific audience - all you have to do is get them to put your product or service in front of their audience and BOOM, job done. Whatever the sector or niche, there is a Micro-Influencer out there who will perfectly represent your brand.
3. Facebook and Instagram Stories.
The first thing users see when they open either Facebook or Instagram is the Stories feature - which is PRIME POSITION for any marketing material you want to publish. Here you have the opportunity to let your customers see what’s going on behind the scenes, announce important updates or announcements for a limited time, host competitions or giveaways and discounts and better still, you can set sponsored adverts to appear in stories for a more targeted reach. The options really are endless.
4. Brand Ambassadors.
Every brand needs an ambassador to promote your brand through social media and more. They don’t just have to be celebrities, you can use loyal customers or employees. Brand Ambassadors can use their audience to get more people excited about your product, brand, services. Having them on board with increase your organic reach plus as customers or employees, they would be a more ‘trusted source’ therefore people are more likely to accept recommendations and interact with the content they are sharing.
5. Snapchat Marketing.
Snapchat has been very popular amongst teenagers and the younger generation, however, the user group is rapidly expanding to include people over the age of 25. New sponsored features include video adverts, geofilters, lenses and stories but marketing your business through SnapChat doesn’t have to cost you a penny. You could use your account to take users behind the scenes, offer exclusive content, run contests, introduce new products and announce any sales and promotions. Snapchat has already gained more users than Twitter, so maybe it is time to shake things up a bit?
6. Tinder Marketing.
This is no joke. There are already a few big brands out there using Tinder to push their products or services. Millions of people of all ages are now using Tinder, if you set up a profile and put your product in front of them, it might be just what they’re looking for, even if they don’t know it yet. Businesses can personalise their profile and set your target location or age demographic so you can reach exactly who you think would be interested in what your business has to offer. If you take their fancy, they also message you which will open another line of communication with a potential customer… but only if you’re brave enough.
7. Video Marketing.
Firstly, let’s think about how users browse through your social media accounts, how quickly do they scroll through images versus how many minutes do they spend a day watching video content that appears? If your maths is spot on, you’ve probably come to the realisation that video is the way to go. These days there are so many options in terms of sharing video content. You have YouTube, Social Media Platforms, 360-degree interactive experiences, Virtual Reality, Stories, Live Broadcasts and more. It’s a known fact that video content will get more likes, engagements and reach, plus people are more likely to share video content. So if you haven’t already, get your video camera out.
8. Visual Search.
We have already touched base with Voice Search but another browsing trend you need to consider is Visual Search. These days it is possible to snap a picture of something you’ve seen and instead of trying to describe it, you can just drop an image into Google and it will do the browsing for you. Pinterest have already upped their game with a Lens Feature so maybe it’s time to set up your own business account and list images of all your products and services as another way to reach your target audience? Because if you don’t, your competition will.

You may also want to consider how people use Voice Search - most consumers take a more conversational approach with long sentences. Think key phrases rather than key words. The good news is, this reduces competition and increases your chance or appearing on voice search results or as a Featured Snippet.
Depending on the query, you will expect to see one of three options. A paragraph, list or table - though no doubt in a few months or years this will change considerably. If your information appears as a Featured Snippet this is great news as Google has chosen your page as the most useful or relevant for the consumers queries - above the competition. These Featured Snippets always appear above organic results on search listings and will provide a quick answer to a specific question which is exactly what most consumers for are looking for in this day and age.
There are a number of ways which may increase your chances of bagging the Featured Snippet spot. Including analysing your keyword opportunities and making sure they are relevant to your website, service or product. In addition, you could create new content that specifically targets Snippets but always consider user experience, make sure that your content is relevant and natural. For a more strategic response, you could devote a landing page to a single question. Question and Answer formatting is one of the things Featured Snippets keep an eye on and is a great way to provide quick answers to queries. Furthermore, you must ensure that your landing pages are well formatted with subheadings, lists, tables etc so that Google can read your content a lot more efficiently.
Have you noticed that you already have an existing snippet? Great job, but the work is not over. On a regular basis, you must evaluate and amend when necessary to continue driving traffic to your website. Plus, if you are continuously featuring as a snippet, it increases your chance of ranking high on Voice Search which is even more important for Smart Speakers because they only present one result to a query - obviously you want it to be yours.
PageSpeed Insights is a great tool to use when determining your current loading speed time and whether or not it is fast enough. As an added convenience, it will also suggest ways in which to increase your page speed - don’t ignore this part. Heed the advice and increase your page speed in any way that you can. You may also want to consider that your page speed is more important on mobile for Voice Search as consumers will more often than not be using mobile devices for Voice Search especially when they are out and about.
In addition, Google does consider page speed when ranking sites so if your website is far too slow, you may not even rank at all which would be devasting to your conversion rate and sales. Mobile users are even more influential to your ranking now as pages are indexed and ranked based on their experience, so it’s not just all about desktop these days. Moral of the story - your website must be quick and provide a positive experience for the user no matter what screen or browser they are using.
